i’m really proud of jane for how far she’s come since the beginning of heartstopper

Cliff

“…But I’d like you to wait six weeks until exams are over.” Not unreasonable, and now Charlie has a memory that will keep him going until then!

Meowzer

I’m probably the only person who’s waiting for Jane to say “but…”

Lili

Oh my god this is so sweet!!!!! ^_^ I’ve always liked Jane and I hope more ppl will start warming up to her

Sara

Happy 1 year anniversary to the Heartstopper season one trailer! 🥰

As much as Jane has her own root of problems, even though she can be a good mother and has a stern nature… I do have a feeling she may still sneak a little expectation on Charlie, expecting him to put more focus onto his studies than Nick, only because of a sole fear of him relying on Nick for solace.

Harry

I oddly began to like her once these pages were revealed, especially when her trauma was revealed. It goes to show that even those parents who heavily are stern and strict, do have their own reasons for this behaviour.

*Charlie's blushing* 😭😭😭

We love healthy communication <3

So encouraging, this healthy, calm discussion. Two sides right? And she's been loving and protecting her baby so long, hard to watch him transition to adulthood and not intervene

Cliff

While I don’t want to join a “Jane is a terrible parent” bandwagon, it has to be acknowledged that at the height of Charlie’s mental struggles she was most definitely not helpful, arguing with him instead of being understanding. There’s one particularly painful moment in the comic when (unseen), she yells “you’re not even trying” at him. In “This Winter,” Tori is furious at Jane for arguing with Charlie at this difficult moment in his life. Her acknowledgment to Charlie that she’s acting like her mother is way way overdue. So while I’m all for positive developments, she wasn’t/isn’t an average Mom, but an emotionally damaged one. But one hopefully on her own road to recovery.

Ps: Nothing tells that the "You're not even trying" is coming from Jane. Those bubbles around Charlie on that page are a mix of texts he received and his thoughts spiralling. That sentence is most likely something Charlie says to himself

Cliff

If you read “This Winter,” it would be obvious that it was Jane saying that. It’s not an inner dialogue. Charlie was abused verbally in a period that led to a suicide attempt described in Solitaire. The reason Charlie had to be rushed to the hospital (shown in the comic) was because Tori discovered Charlie covered in blood in the bathroom one day. How (or if) this will be dealt with in the TV adaptation is unclear; Alice already stated that another pivotal Solitaire moment, when Ben punches Charlie, Nick sees, and then attacks Ben screaming “I’m going to kill you,” isn’t going to be shown in the live-action version. Solitaire gets to some dark places! Anyway, Jane was not emotionally prepared to deal with Charlie’s illness.

I have read this winter. These are 2 very different moment. The comic part happens in September (and Alice has talked about this page, basically saying what I said. A mix of real texts and his thoughts spiralling). The This Winter argument happens in December. And at no point in the This Winter argument does she say something like that (And I will add that Nick is the only one we know who actually said that. I cant remember if it's this exact sentence but something like that triggered their argument in January) I am not saying she didnt fck up a lot but it's no use to add stuff she didnt say ^^ (and for the solitaire part you are talking about (charlie in the bathroom), it was changed in the edited version of Solitaire. It doesnt go beyond self harm)

Cliff

I didn’t think the argument with Nick had anything to do with Jane, and can’tdo more than guess what that was about. Regarding the other stuff, we read different things into the same text, which happens all the time. I wasn’t aware of there being an edit to Solitaire; Alice referred to a suicide attempt in a timeline comparing the books with the comic, so I thought that was canon.

Lili

I read “Julio and Jane” so I was already aware of her relationship with her parents so I was disappointed to see everyone hate her so much. I’m glad ppl like you are starting to like her
