I’mNotSayingThat

Is “Gone with the Wind” too obvious? Might be too obvious.

Brandon Hall

Tyler Perry The Family that preys PLEASE. Hear me out. I know it’s a little off the intent but as a black person NOTHING caricaturizes the black experience more than Tyler Perry. He makes us all out to be a Voltron of stereotypes. Plus it has everything you want. Domestic violence presented as “he’s finally being a man” terrible religion, and white saviorism. I think it’s perfect

Troublemaker Jake

They did soul man already (I looked to make sure)

Hot Dickson Rice

What was that Shirley Temple movie where she was some southern princess who tap danced slavery away?

TBoneSF

The Toy- Richard Pryor teaches racist (as in he hosts KKK dignitaries at lavish parties at his mansion) Jackie Gleason that blacks are people too BY AGREEING TO BE THE PROPERTY OF HIS SON FOR A WEEK. Luckily the kid (future porn star Scott Schwarz) is willing to take on the role of White Savior In Training. As if being owned by a white kid wasn't humiliating enough, Richard Pryor is also made to dress in a French maid outfit to serve lunch to a boardroom full of people.

Kurt Montandon

"The Jerk." He *was* born a poor black child, after all.

You can just think of me as That One Guy

"From Hell It Came", or as I described it to a friend, "White Men Are The Absolute Worst: The Movie". Featuring a walking killer tree, sure, but the real monster is the colonial attitudes... Also, it is hilariously bad in every respect.

Stansky

Come on, guys. It’s gotta be Crash. It’s a lazy, smug, ignorant abomination that takes the stance that Racism boils down to a few individuals needing to get an attitude adjustment, and overlooks any systemic disenfranchisement or institutional oppression. Gee, if only the world were as progressive and socially aware as 2004 LA! Also, it somehow beat out Brokeback Mountain for best picture- and I’m gonna die mad about it. https://youtu.be/DEJH0hEoHc4

Geoffrey T. Blackwell

Finding Forrester. Sean Connery helps a young black writer find his "voice." Also, F. Murray Abraham is in there chewing the scenery.

Mobius Rex

The Gods Must Be Crazy A 1980 South African blockbuster in which a Namibian tribesman sets out on a quest into the white man's world to return a Coca-Cola bottle to the gods after it falls on his village from an airplane.

Mobius Rex

Ooh, can we have Keisha back? Pleasepleaseplease?

Mobius Rex

Also, the lead actor's name, N!xau, has a fun tongue clicky noise in it.

2026-09-08 13:00 I thought this was obvious, Birth of a Nation?

Kentucky fried movie this movie is so incredible I can’t even describe it.It has to be seen to be believed. It does have asian sploitation and black sploitation and it rips on dead people.

Tim Durning

The Help - bonus tie in to Ezekiel because of the pie scene!

Truffalo

Ok, here me out... Black Dynamite

Spinoza's Godzilla

“Loqueesha” I’m sorry to be the one to bring this up, but it has to be “Loqueesha”. It’s about a white guy who can’t get a job in radio on account of him being white so he pretends to be a black woman. If you loved Soul Man but wished it wasn’t so damn subtle and nuanced you will love this movie. I mean look at this damned thing: https://youtu.be/RQKCgpHTU2g

Spinoza's Godzilla

Cracked called it “probably the worst movie of 2019.” The Guardian called it “the worst movie ever made”. No doubt it will be more painful to sit through than most of the other movies on this list but I think you’ll agree that all white people need to see this movie in penance for having made it.

Michael Colon

Oh my God. It has to be "Loqueesha"!!!!

Adam

Worst movie to sit through? 2 votes!

Don Toovey

That’s a very good question jacob

Tom jackson

I was going to say that.

Michael Colon

I just want to listen as the GAM guys get uncomfortable just saying the title much less having to review it. 🤣🤣

Aaron Roberto

I highly doubt the movie Australia would be bad enough for this podcast, but they did NOT hold back when it came to the attitudes towards indigenous Australians.

Kathleen

Hector and the Search for Happiness. I was speechless by its racism and sexism.

Veronica Forker

That’s true, and he has a black friend encouraging him to do it

Leslie Marchant

I hate to say it, because I like the movie...but, "Glory". Matthew Broderick wasn't needed. White savior, indeed.

That Julia Person

Two fucking votes. The people Tyler Perry hates more than black men are black women. Tyler Perry movies are a study in internalized racism.

tronvillain

Oof. I loved both of those when I was a little kid.

Ilan Woll

Original Gangstas

Ilan Woll

Birth of a Nation

Joshua

I didn’t know about this movie before I started scrolling through the comments here but I just saw the trailer and you have to do Loqueesha.

Don Toovey

It was a great case but a bloody awful movie but it would probably qualify

Sarvis

Does "Avatar" count as a white savior movie? I feel like it totally does.

Michael Colon

This needs more votes. It is so bad. From the title to end credits. It's so bad.

Kroll the Swolbold

"The Great White Hype" Samuel L Jackson gets a white former boxer to train hard to fight the overconfident lazy black heavyweight champion. And it has Jeff Goldblum

Rachel

I think if you can get Song Of The South you should totally do it

JP Salentine

Black dynamite? But that's more intentional

K

The Blind Side. Ultimate white savior complex

Dan

'Cleopatra Jones', or if you've got the GUTS, 'Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song.'

Brandon Hall

Crash indeed “Insist upon itself”.

Troublemaker Jake

The Last samurai, fits the white savior to a t, if not black history.

john Morrow

Gods and generals (because screw subtlety)

Iheart Dogs

The Blind Side or Crash.

Scott W. Davis

I know Noah hates Crash so much that to suggest he sit through it again would be cruelty. So how about the other craptacular Best Picture winner, Green Book? Or if you're attached to actual blaxploitation, Truck Turner, because it's amazing.

marissa haire

Dolemite, Willie Dynamite, Truck Turner

marissa haire

This movie made me so angry and it's one of his better ones.

Brandon Hall

@marissa haire Same. It made me sick when theirs the scene where Tyler’s character is trying to fight the WOMAN in the diner and his wife’s holding him back and it’s meant to be funny. Or seconds later when her husband slaps her so hard she flies across the counter but the woman he hit is still supposed to be the villain and you’re to think “he was a wimp before but now he’s a man”. You’re right it’s one of his better. But judging his movies is like “Okay everyone which one of these piles of cow dung smells the least worst?” 😂

Brandon Hall

@spinoza’s Godzilla yea I think you’re right. It looks like The Blind side is winning but I hope they keep this one for the future

Brandon Hall

@That Julia Person Sooooo true!! I’m medium brown skinned so according to Tyler Perry I’m a wimp with an ‘over bearing’ wife I need to ‘put in her place’. That’s his color code for men. Dark skin = COMICLY evil. Medium brown = wimp. Light skinned = Christ like savior to the poor helpless black woman. Then all black women are either hood and evil, boujee and evil. Or a liiittle church mouse who just needs a good ol light skinned man and, some payback domestic violence, and some jebis magic to be all better. And BET now shows that 10 hours of TP content a day.

Thomas J McMullan

Sugar Hill, a zombie revenge movie, Black Gestapo, a black panther group gets corrupted by members who start dressing as Nazis. What could go wrong with this plan?

Michael Colon

I'm gonna say that "Loqueesha" can almost be for the regular show. It hits all the points of the Christian movie bingo card, but just barely missing the religion specific ones enough to be called secular. But it is so bad. On racial issues, hooooly shit is it uncomfortable. Wow. My wife had the look of omg on her face like a full 5 minutes after the trailer was over. Beyond that, the acting is terrible. It is directed and produced by the guy playing the main character. The kissing is awkward. The jokes are horrible and don't know when to end. And this seems uncomfortable to say, but the stereotype black lady voice the guy uses... it's... baaaaaaad. Like I feel bad saying that I've seen it done better, as if there should be a better. This is like your drunk white uncle impersonating a Madea movie trailer he saw one time.

Truffalo

Yeah, I'm a GAM patron, I'm familiar with parody. I liked the film, but it certainly fits the bill. Besides, you can't honestly tell me it wouldn't be a laugh riot to hear the GAM crew describe this movie.

Mobius Rex

Did I just watch a white man pretend to be a black woman mocking an actual woman about to commit suicide? You win. I vote Loqueesha.

TBoneSF

I think Crash only won because of Brokeback Mountain. Crash got pretty slammed by critics when it came out and was quickly forgotten. Then when Brokeback was getting near universal praise, a lot of the very old, very straight, very Christian members of the Academy were being vocal about their hatred of the very idea of Brokeback Mountain. And it was odd the interviews where completely unprompted members of the Academy felt the need to say they WOULD NEVER vote for Brokeback Mountain. Many of these interviews were like "so what is the highlight over your 50 years in Hollywood?" "I have many, but I just need to say not only will I not vote for Brokeback Mountain, I will never even see it! And those rumors about me and Rock Hudson are totally false! No homo!" So the Academy had a big problem. They knew they were going to snub Brokeback, but that would kill their image as being progressive. So they had to find a "woke" movie to rally behind. They certainly couldn't rally behind the Truman Capote biopic or the "maybe Israel took it too far" Spielberg film. Suddenly, Crash becomes an Oscar darling. After all, how could people accuse the Academy of being full of bigots if they voted for the "racism is bad" movie?

Anne the transwoman

Dunno if it fits, but Celtic pride ? jeeesus fuck that movie.
