This week, Cara joins us for some bad sportsing.

I genuinely think Christians love the martyrdom of the story of Job. They physically cannot see how the story is bad.

TheDukeOfDoom

I love it when a friendly hoovy throws me a sandvich

Okay, the first time I listened to last week's episode, I remember thinking "Is the next movie like Rudy? I watched that in Catholic school." And then I realized that my mind just totally equivocated "basketball" and "football" as some sort of nebulous concept of "ball sport".

Denise Huston

Don't worry Noah, we noticed your Fresh Prince reference.

Markus D

Nicknaming your kid "Hoovy" because he got his arm stuck in a vacuum at some point sounds like the most honky shit ever.

General Contact Unit Problem Child

so what kind of Christian is Patrick Warburton? like I would normally assume someone is a hard right evangelical if the act in a movie like this, but if he's like that I don't get how he could possibly be ok with being a family guy regular cast member?

Kurt Montandon

The most honky shit ever would be naming him "Hoovey" right when he was born for no good reason. Trust me, the "births" section of my local newspaper has loads of names like that: https://i.imgur.com/a7BaImG.jpg

I feel the need to point out that Normal, IL, isn't a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. Bloomington-Normal is about 2 hours out from Chicago and has around 150 thousand people, which I think makes this stupid movie even funnier.

Yay! Vulgarity for Charity is back! If you can, set up a reoccurring donation, too. Reoccurring donations are super important for charities because they are better able to make the yearly budget.

GenmuLVLX

Hoovey has to be the stupidest name for a movie I've ever heard

Hal Boldercrest

Slight bit of trivia about Job. "Satan" in this story is actually a mistranslation of an ancient Hebrew job jitle "hasatan" which is basically an inquisitor. The story was about God having his chief inquisitor give Job a heresy audit

Mark Warren

When Hoovey became an insurance salesman do you think he learned about actuarial tables, flipped over to head injuries and went, “Holy FUCK mom and dad! What the fuck were you THINKING!? It was just BASKETBALL for fuck’s sake!?”

Alextomcool

I don't think Richard Mull, who played the bailiff Bull in Night Court, is dead. I can't find any news articles or anything referring to it.

Becki Hayworth

I’m glad someone pointed this out. Lol. Also, the town is called Normal because Illinois State Normal University was located there (a “normal” school being a teacher-training institution). Also, Bloomington currently has a Black mayor. The Bloomington/Normal area is not as backwards as this movie makes it appear. I mean it is still downstate Illinois, so it’s not perfect. But it’s also not the worst.

Patrick Carr

I mean…a live show with Cara in a thong would probably sell out. Just saying.

Rebecca Oxford

I wonder if the mom changed her inspirational talk about the wheelbarrow after the defrauded them and took all their money, to a guy getting in the wheelbarrow because of faith, and then falling and drowning in the Falls.

Total Absolutism

The kind that desperately needs money right now.

David S.

Maybe it's just my general confusion kicking in but wouldn't the school have some ability to stop him from playing? It seems like if they knew how vulnerable he was to injury they could be liable in some way for allowing him to play basketball.

Denise Huston

So I went to a shitty small town school (population 2K, including the outlying rural areas) like the one purportedly in this movie and 1. Teachers ABSOLUTELY still lead prayers (even in my public school) before events (my drama teacher did a prayer circle before every performance, and I just stepped back and waited). 2. They probably DID show the footage on the garbage public access channel with commentary. Our school certainly did, though IDK who tf watched it. There were mics and an ancient camera set up at every basketball game I had to attend for band.

Total Absolutism

I asked a friend who lived in Normal and while he hadn't heard of Hoovey, his dad had. Wild.

Kristine VanRaalte

So...Hoovey is worth a movie but the shit from my childhood, if I were ever to tell any christian, would earn me the label of "snowflake." Christians admire THE most mediocre of people.
