The Real Moorey

Brace yourselves fellow Aussies. We’re going to deservedly cop it over this one 🤦‍♂️

Khristle

My parents fell for this one so fucking hard. I've had to put up with it for nearly twenty years and I still get "what are you telling the universe right now?" When I talk about wanting to change literally anything. This promises to be a v cathartic review

Ada the Muscle Witch

Unrelated to the episode, but what's the Patreon goal for Leap Year, the year where Eli has to watch Leap every day for a year?

Steve Chaput

I knew you guys would get around to this eventually. When I worked as a Librarian I was amazed by the number folks buying into the book. I blame Oprah.

TenaciousB

I don't believe in burning books, except for this one and Eat, Pray, Love.

That one with the boobs

Memory unlocked: Mom got mad at me for not taking this seriously in high school. Apparently saying I wanted to be MegaMan X was impossible, but asking for [really depressing thing] to stop was possible.

Denise Huston

Literally my dad would write positive affirmations on post-it notes and tape them all over our house. It's quite depressing to come across after he died, considering a number of them WERE about the skin cancer that killed him. (Note: he also did real medicine, he wasn't stupid, just strange.)

Panzer

Sadly my mom fell for this kinda thing like a decade ago and hasn't really gotten away from it since.

The Real Moorey

Is no one disturbed that the vision board guy keeps calling his son ‘honey’ and ‘sweetheart’?

LindswithanA

My elementary school hired someone to give this same talk to the student body. That night and for years after my prayers became frantic pleas composed of awkward positive phrases because I was afraid Jesus had misinterpreted my previous uses of "not" and "don't" and would therefore kill my family and pets.

Krostos

My aunt gave my mom this book, in retrospect it should have been a warning for us about some of the shit she would pull.

Kara Z

My mom was obsessed by this when it came out and made all her (adult) kids watch it. I remember wondering back then if it was satire because it was the weirdest and dumbest thing I had seen. It was before I got into skepticism and didn’t know yet about homeopathy and how common anti-vaxers are. I kind of miss that naïveté. My mom never appreciated when she would be complaining about something and I would mention that maybe if her attitude improved she could solve all her problems. I’ve always been an asshole.

Andy Ward

It won't happen Eli because you did it wrong! You need to say "Eli and Marsh ARE making out hard at QED", you Secret n00b!

Makin' do.

Yeah so my Uber Christian grandfather and grandmother loved this sort of woo. My grandfather sent me and my cousin's down to watch this movie right before he got diagnosed with prostate cancer for the second time. He survived it It took him being 80 plus and getting the same cancer a third time to take that Rasputin of a man down but it wasn't positive thinking The kept him going. It was the chemo and radiation and his iron will. I kept my mouth shut but the whole time I watched that movie all I could think was then how come slavery didn't end earlier? I'm quite sure my ancestors sure as fuck thought about freedom.

Makin' do.

Not with my family. As woofilled and annoying as my family is, they have always been really positive about feminist stuff. Affection was never limited by gender. My uncle never limited affection towards his son or daughter. Not in a creepy way but like he'd use the same affectionate terminology with both his kids and still does. He still calls his daughter and son baby boy and baby girl. My aunt on that side does the same thing with her three kids.

The Real Moorey

Oh, I get it. I’m just particularly referring to this creep and the way he does it. He gives off a serious passive aggressive vibe of a man with dark secrets bubbling under the surface. Or maybe it’s just me.

J. Vizzle

This episode made my heart soar like the sparrows of San Capistrano!

Barbara Forrest-Ball

This "documentary" launched James Arthur Ray to stardom ... until three people died at one of his $10,000 "Spiritual Warrior" programs when his sweat lodge went horribly awry.

Total Absolutism

Wait a minute.... GAM 365... The Secret... 365 days in a year... It's all starting to come together...

Jo Green

🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks for that! I must be in a mood, because I can’t stop giggling about this. Now that I’m off the floor.

Markus D

I personally think of "honey" and "sweetheart" as more of things you call your significant other than your kid, so I kind of get what you're thinking like. But it's probably also in the delivery.

When I was an exchange student in Budapest (Csik Ferenc) they played this IN CLASS
