Herbie & John — Gone Fishin' (Patreon)

If you read the previous newsletter, you'll know I had an idea that’s either the funniest thing ever... or the stupidest. Actually, it might be both. After I posted this comic for No Nut November...

... I realized that I had stumbled upon a couple of characters that I was kinda fascinated by! Technically, John (he's the one on the right in the comic above) had his debut in an Evil Inc After Dark comic...

Anyway... the idea for Herbie and John (bonus points if you figure out why I chose those names) came to me in a flash. It happened like this. I was struggling to write one final N-N-N comic. I thought the Pringles-can comic (below) was pretty good, and I wanted to follow it up with one more swing. But I was really groping (heh) for a good angle.

Mostly, all of my ideas centered on finally cranking one out after a month of resisting. Then, I thought... what about cheating? The concept of cheating on yourself with yourself was pretty funny. And that's when I landed on the scene of the hand coming home to see signs of cheating all around the apartment that he shared with a little anthropomorphic penis. Instead of pulling a bra out of the sofa cushions or finding strange panties under the bed, there were telltale signs that other hands had been visiting.

It implied a Tom & Jerry-style relationship that I found very funny. Before I knew it, I had sketched out about a dozen cartoons in my sketchbook. I'm not sure I'm going to do all of them. But I really like the ones I finished so far.
