For a show like AoT, I'd say 8 episodes a week is a perfect pace. The mysteries of the show and the way it piles on more and more questions can make people who binge it quicker get a little lost. Better to digest the information the show provides at a slower pace so that you understand more.

Based off what you see in the show they add little hints about everything that you’ll never pick up on your first watch and a lot of stuff you 100% not of figured out untill they hit a flashback of someone finding it out. it is just how the shows made, to constantly be in suspense and asking questions, my first watch the only hint i ever had of annie being the titan was that she was female and blonde blue eyed like the titan which includes like a lot of characters in the show, but later watching it again say you might notice how similar the titan and annie fighting styles are which is very small detail but like one of the only hints that i’ve noticed tbh

However, you don’t have enough context to piece them together until the anime reveals that they were part of the answer all along. It slowly gives you the pieces one by one, creating a satisfying experience for viewers who manage to figure things out from only a few subtle hints, as well as for those who rewatch the show and realize that the clues had been there from the very beginning once later episodes provide the necessary context.

I first watched the series in sub which I lowkey regret? I felt the impact of the speech so much harder when i rewatched the series on dub. Erwin dub is unmissable for me.

I think sub/dub depends on show. Samurai champloo, trigun, cowboy bebop are examples of good dub. original VA (subs) just put way more emotions in the show, also there's no weird cuts or edits, and the way the dialog is portrayed is closer to the correct things they say rather than the dubbing

And I will never understand how people can't see the difference in performance quality between the voice actors for characters like armin or eren. It's not close. So no, there are not "only positives". In general, there is not a single character that's better in dub. At best, they are both good. i think dub makes it harder to understand because they have to alter the wording in order to fit the movement of the characters’ mouths, which changes a lot of the meanings. if you read subs then you’re reading the direct translation which is going to be the easiest to understand

they're great VAs but their performances in this show specifically are outdone by the english VAs. it's like how troy Baker is great as Joel but doesn't make him immediately the best pick for every video game protagonist ever. he's actually fumbled some roles other people would've done much better. I just think the english VAs for Erwin and Levi are much better matched to their character than the Japanese VAs.

The subtitles can easily convey the wrong message because they often 'literally' translate what is being said, not what is intended. The AoT Dub actually makes it easier to follow along with the plot. Like when he misread what Erwin was asking Eren because the tone was culturally Japanese, not Western, so he couldn't discern what Erwin's intentions were. I can't stand the Sub elitists.

The same issue exists with the Sub translation; they have to fit the meaning into limited text space on the bottom of the screen and what that text reads is up to the interpreter, which may not align with the story's intent, which is why the Dub is better if you don't know Japanese. It is carefully worded by the dubbing studio that has to actually consider the emotion and plot of the story to match the original intent, not just some translator who is translating the Japanese to English literally. Also, AoT is animated with "lip flap" style speaking, so they're not exactly matching it to fit the movement of characters' mouths as much as one might think.

Before going on the second season there is a few OVAs that you can watch, they tell each about different stories, the most cooles ones is 'Ilse's notebook' AND 'No regrets', the second one is actually about Levi's past and it's just so well made, please don't skip these, after 1st season it's the perfect timing to watch them.

If you like mysteries, and trying to solve what you see and be amazed by the foreshadowing and stuff, "The Lord of mysteries" could be a nice watch. It goes faster than the books, but still. The protagonist is really smart, impressive but also really likable. The dub is really good (I usually dont like dub, but this one is really nice ! ) . LEVI AND PETRA the scene where everyone regrouped after levi and mikasa retrieved eren… you could see levi kneeling in front of his dead squad. he opened one of the bodies and it was petra, revealing her emblem. what he was actually doing there was cutting her emblem out from her jacket. then in the next scene, when levi told the terrified survey corps members to throw the bodies off the wagon to make it lighter… that wagon carried his own squad. there’s that slow-motion moment where petra’s body is thrown, and you can see how devastated levi looks. later, when dieter apologized to levi, levi handed him the emblem he had taken earlier, saying it was ivan’s to comfort him. again, you can see it all over levi’s face. and finally, the scene with petra’s father talking about how she wanted to devote her life to levi… you can see how affected he is. some fans think petra liked him romantically, but to me it feels more like deep respect. levi clearly recognized that, which is why he kept her emblem… but eventually chose to give it to dieter instead.

I don't always find it cringe, my favorite dubs are for death note and monster, both are very strong and for sure enjoyable, however, I still find Japanese to be better in both of those cases too, the only one thing in anime (excluding dragon ball) that I thought dub did better was a single quote by the narrator in hunter x hunter. A lot of stuff only makes sense in hindsight. There will be moments you have the same info as the characters and don't know what's going on, and there will be moments where the characters know things you don't. You're asking all the right questions, and your confusion is intentional. You can't see everything coming, what's the fun in that. 😉 ... also Armin just has great instinct and intuition, you don't always know how he knows because he doesn't "know" he's just really good at making assumptions and being right lol get used to just trusting him

420 🔥🔥 glad you’re clocking all the mystery involved here. this show is literally an action mystery, it’s so unique and well done. super fun hearing your theories on what’s going on. keep thinking man. it’s awesome to find a reactor who wants to think deeply about this show and piece stuff together, not just watch brainlessly this show does so much sick foreshadowing. obviously i can’t speak on most of it yet. one of my fav early examples that i can speak on now is during the original scene when armin and annie are talking during the gear inspection after the captured titans were killed. they’re just talking normally for a minute, and then you see armin briefly react to something off screen. then it zooms out, and for a second, you can see armin staring right at annie’s gear with a weird look on his face. fucking love that shit. you wouldn’t be likely to notice in the moment but you go back and can see the moment armin realizes something is up. seasons 2, 3, and 4 are literally all better than season 1. bro this shit just gets more and more peak. can’t wait to see what you think of the rest 🔥

Quick answer to whether or not you could've figured it out ahead of time; yes, but you had the wrong frame of mind going into it. Which is by design. Like a magician, the writer wants you considering all the wrong things while dangling all the right info in front of you. In order to figure it out, you'd have needed to focus more on the implications that came with Eren's initial transformation. This is where Erwin started from when putting the whole plan together. Follow that train of thought logically, and everything starts clicking into place. If it's possible for people to become titans AND retain their personality, all of a sudden tye collosal and aromored titans start making more sense. They HAD to also be humans who can transform too. Then you ask yourself the next logical questions. Where'd they go after the attack five years ago, why haven't they attacked again in all that time, why attack again NOW, how can I lure them out, etc etc. Now, specifically about them capturing Annie, the trap in the woods wasn't specifially for her. All they knew was, "someone's after Eren, and we're gonna lay a trap." Annie was a surprise, which is why she fucked their shit up so bad. They only *knew* about the armored and collossal titans and were probably expecting one of them. Another slightly off topic thing, I know you're probably tired of folks touching on the topic, but as I just joined and haven't given my two cents, I'll say this based on how you've been watching the show up till now. As far as I can see, almost every time you got confused about something, it was due to a line or two that was weirdly translated. I'd suggest that if something they say doesn't make sense in the moment, try temporarily switching to the dub to see how the line is spoken in English. It may help your theory crafting out a ton in the long run.

When you think about it, beating Annie in Titan form is like beating Mikasa any time; almost impossible - fortunately I guess they all had teamwork on their side. Sort of an underlying message in almost every anime ever. It's ...kind of a profound message when you think about it. Alone you're almost worthless - even if you do something useful - it will be to other's benefit - your friends and teammates and such. It makes a lot of sense. Anime is profound in unexpected ways, especially when you see it for the first time - you usually don't realize the overall message - but most anime default to this - friendship and teamwork. It's ...a pretty wholesome message really. This anime is just so dark, that you don't quite see it for most of the series.
