Another essay I couldn't help but get completely engrossed in, even as a non-religious person who isn't the most well-versed on the subject! My personal takeaway from this is how the controlling world of (at least institutionalized) religion can contribute to the death of innocence and how destructive but also how formative those experiences can be. The way I see it is that there is a point as to how I could vision someone becoming a being of faith, mainly in the sense of providing a moral/philosophical foundation. With that however comes the black and white way of viewing the example basis of being human that comes across as too opinionated and maybe even bordering on demonization depending on the circumstances. Anyone who was prescribed to this against their will deserves to question their stance of their own beliefs and ultimately, nobody in that situation is wrong for deconverting from that part of themselves and rectifying the distortion. What is quite relatable though with the fact that hell is more believe than God. It's way more tangible conceptually and the depictions of hell have always seemed more aesthetically fascinating in art & media to me, despite how it could morph into our impressionable psyche, like a stronghold of our perception of the eternal afterlife, that also can't be definitely perceived in our present existence by anyone!
