BABE WAKE UP NEW SAV VIDEO!!!!

Lyra Klise

What a lovely thing to have made (: that has been the basic summation of my thoughts every time I’ve interacted with your art since I was like 16(???) Thanks for making things. World is just that lil bit better for it each time.

OiBoy

You were sooooo right about Grimes

Brian Brill

It's encouraging to know that people like you are on the side of betterworldism.

Oscar Sorvick

I think this is my favorite video of yours.

oh to be bug batting at a phantom of the world

Jocelyn Richer-Grégoire

Your approach and your choice of words never fail to make me smile. Thank you for being you and pushing forward your humanity, we'll need more of that as we collectively stumble into conciousness.

savannah brown

!!! always nice to hear this...reassuring to not be getting worse...+ i think it's my fav too

I'd say a tree does become more beautiful when I consider it through the lens of what we know of biology, evolution and the entire history of our planet. This wonderfully stoic, impossibly ancient design is itself younger than sharks (to reference a popular trivia point). That gives another layer of meaning to me touching its bark, but perhaps I'm just too fond of the abstract and imaginary for my own good. Curiosity and a non-judgmental mindset towards your fellow human is a necessary evil for an artist (scientists and psychologists too), and probably better for one's mental health (as you can attest), but I'm not entirely convinced it's scalable. The weed's roots run deep (going back to the whole evolution thing) and to me it's not an alien body, but, regrettably, the very foundation of our existence. So yeah, I'm one of those miserable, pessimistic misanthropes I guess, but sometimes I wish (and almost hope) I could be more like you, and just sit under the damn tree.

i occasionally find myself in a state where i feel that adding my own words might lessen the moment (que previous post... seriously i was in tears x.x). does such an experience reach to (or maybe meet at) the same place in the soul that art goes? the ending (which i have been in agreeance with for quite some time now) reminds me of one of my catch phrases - 'if i am anything, i am obvious'

savannah brown

[pulls cigarette from mouth] it was a metaphor [puts in cigarette back in mouth and blows a sick smoke ring]

haz

smacked my head on my range hood while watching this so I think the world IS getting worse lovely video, thank u :^) loved the structure (and the style!!)

smallfry4olives

there are tears in my eyes, thanks sav xx

The feelings you put out are so comfortable to carry. I love the reminder that the human project has so many times achieved the impossible. When it comes to it, as much as we’re under the impression people vary wildly on what they consider to be good, you made me think that that’s not the case. I think people mostly share your description of what would be paradise. It’s what people are wanting to sacrifice to approximate paradise in their lives that I think is where the fracture lies. But to be able to reflect on these things so comfortably on this rainy chilly night is such a gift. Love your videos. Every one.

serrap

I love the Louis Theroux jumper! Very fitting for this video, as his work is a constant reminder that people, too, are not getting worse.

Yeah I got that, maybe I just like talking too much. Loved the video (and the sick smoke ring, wish I could do that).

Gray Requiem

In the end, simply enjoy it! No matter needed

Danielle Brown

in much of what you say here, i was reminded of the movie "ANIARA" (which is, ostensibly, about the intersection with and expression of religion, belief, philosophy, and the collectively manufactured (co-created) experience and expression of community and of hope)…though, spoiler alert, this movie will, in all probability, *really* fuck you up. ;) enjoy!!

savannah brown

that looks AMAZING, thank you, you always have such good recs for me

savannah brown

i thought exactly this while i was suiting up!!! a non-judgemental, curious fella..which is why i like him so much and own three items of clothing feat. his name and/or face

Danielle Brown

awww! thanks, chica! if you have trouble finding it, lemme know, and I'll send a link to it…

this video might be my favorite thus far - love seeing the way your brain works💖🌀✨

"...and art goes to the place in the soul where language alone cannot." i think that's something that i appreciate the most about how you build your videos, this one included. as a fellow fan of the human project (if only coming around to it entirely in recent years), thank you for the reminder to keep caring.

Fab

thank you sav

Nathan Baker

I was thinking that too. This or what is love

Googoo Gaagaa

I really resonated with so many parts of the whole overthinking thing. Suddenly, I feel less alone bahaha. Thank you for this video 😭😭😭

Uproote

My God the tree portion hit so fucking hard it's insane. "And are you happy with what you've done?" 🌿🔥

𖦹 scribblepeep_

it might be just me, but I believe that it is becoming increasingly more important to not shy away from certain 'external' things. I truly applaud your initiative to make this video. I also happen to love it a lot, lol.

bailey bayer

the videos just keep getting better... the idea of progress has been an epistemological point of contention for people i've surrounded myself with for a long time. through my own contemplation of what progress meant to me, i realized that these people around me saying, "progress belongs to those who can afford it" is an inherently defeatist mentality, when it really takes a village for us to evolve as a species. it's the WHOLE DAMN TOWN!! we all make our own progress. yeah, getting into echo chambers can do something to ya, and the results ain't pretty. social media has eaten away at the fabric of our compassion so deeply that it is starting to feel like the great destroyer, but at the end of the day, the tree is what matters. and those who want to join us in sitting under the tree can join. what a time to be alive. this one had me really shook. love is the answer

tana m

Listening to you sitting in a really nice cafe, everything has come into place i think, probably not, but i believe i’ll move with some more openness and curiosity. however long it lasts, i am very grateful for this video, as always. <3

Silviu

You seem to consistently verbalise many of my thoughts better than I ever could. Thank you for your work!

lucycurran

wonderful as always!!

Victoria

Really resonated with the topic ! Especially the part with experiencing the tree and the layers of analysis🍃

savannah brown

i'm quite pro-tree analysis for the record...knowledge and searching...

Joe

Keeping topics personal is certainly safer and easier vs speaking on topics outside of oneself however, there's not much growth & improvement when things are safe and easy. Imo I think you should speak on the way of things more often. You are able to think about, dissect and analyze things from practically all perspectives while also including philosophical discussion. You seem to be able to see things from the macro to the micro from a top down and bottom up perspective. Have you ever researched Low Latent Inhibition, Sav? I'm actually inclined to believe you might have LLI rather than simply being autistic. People with LLI typically have a core drive and need to know the inner working behind everything while also figuring out how everything is connected. Self improvement comes easy because people with LLI can see the underlying causes behind things such as their own behavior, actions and past experiences, as well as the consequences of any ripple effects. People with LLI are primarily concerned with truth, no matter what that might be. The world, as in people, are getting worse especially psychologically. At the same time however there seems to be many people seeing and feeling how things are in the world and in their own life and are making strides to improvement, which is good to see, there is hope. I understand the need to not be wrong, but being wrong isn't bad, it's how one handles it when they are wrong. I encourage you to speak more on things that don't feel safe and easy, and I seriously enjoy listening to what you have to say. And as for why I would want to listen to you over someone that might know more is because you speak from the top down perspective and from the true nature of things, which is very refreshing and (for me) quite inspiring.

jumpscare @ 7:45 really got me

savannah brown

i agree very much w your first paragraph..i'm working on it haven't come across this, just read a little and yes, that does seem to accurately describe my thinking..or at least the 'feeling' attached to my thinking thank you very much for your kind words and encouragement!

This essay felt like 2049 by hans zimmer

zara

one would think the palatability of thought provoking concepts would be enough and then you set the tree metaphor and gave me an mild soul shattering chill that should only exist during the witching hour but no it was a regular wednesday evening and it rounded up the feelings making it my personal favourite video essay of yours thank u sav!!

HPLaserJetProM404n

Ahhhhh so much to think about big brain expandy ahhhh Also "I'm not a professional... I'm more of a groupie" made me laugh so hard, same just same

Toby

This will go down as one of the most important videos of this decade. Mark my words.

Joe

Thanks for looking into LLI and for replying! It's difficult to research LLI because there's so little known about it and there is debate if it's "real", but I know it's real. I was given the prognosis by a very good psychoanalyst & psychologist back in 2020 but at the time, it was difficult for me to comprehend exactly what having LLI meant and how learning about it could help me. Researching it online offered little help but I watched a channel called 'Bipolar Barbie" and listening to what she has to say about it helped make a lot make sense. Then I joined a LLI FB group which has been extremely informative. Going by how my mind works and how I think, and observing many others with LLI and reading what they have to say in the group, I definitely see many similarities in you. Also to note, LLI has overlapping traits and characteristics with autism. Analyzing and comparing LLI to autism and adhd is discussed in the group quite often. Having LLI makes one notice everything and practically all surrounding sensory stimulation must be consciously processed which becomes exhausting and overwhelming, so the higher the IQ, the easier it is to manage. People with LLI are very different from the vast majority of people and many, if not all of us feel like aliens. Almost no one is able to understand us except others with LLI, at least it appears that way and thats also been my experience. However, having LLI seems to enable a higher level of introspection and control over the mind and it can influence creative genius. Sorry this is so long but I'm very passionate about this topic and with a possibility of you having it, then I feel that you learning about it could help you to further understand yourself. INFPs have the deepest and vivid inner worlds so I really appreciate you sharing so much of your self discovery process!

This wrecked me

I watch a lot of YouTube videos and think “I can do this, I should try”. Then I see this, with the sly witticisms, the sharp one liners, the dry sarcasm. And I think “Naw, better left to the naturally talented.” On a critical note - the occasional footnote text was too fast to read.

Alex

Beautiful video as always. What really spoke to me was "Nihilism has many holes through which one can escape." The lead up to this with the juxtaposition of the negative and positive experience of people and the beauty and wonder humanity can create had me choked up with a warm upwelling rising from my chest stemming from the feeling of shared experience. Grateful that these patterns of thought are expressed and felt in more places then only behind my face. This feeling, one I am always grateful to experience, offers me a glimpse into the unconscious meanings I ascribe to my existence in the quiet contented moments of my life. Thank you for this and all the hard work you put into it. *My response might be a tad try hard but when confronted which such eloquence of thought and word I feel the need to try and better my self expression.
